3rd November, 2006. Glorious sunshine, clematis and rhododendron flowering, grass still growing, but heavy dew makes it difficult to cut. The long border is well established now, and we are laying a slate track along the far border, so we can get the mower and trailer through to the glasshouses. We have many pots of semi-tender plants, mainly fuschias to overwinter under glass, plus many daffodils to pot up. Just putting some slate edging in, then we can position another bench. We have a rather nice Sorbus 'Pink Pagoda' to plant out.
30th April, 2006. We've had a run of warm, dry weather. Over 1000 busy lizzies have arrived from Jersey and Sandra is busy in the greenhouse transplanting them all. The camellias are going past their best, but our tree peony, azaleas and rhododendrons are about to bloom. In the orchard our long border (45yards long) has been sprayed off, rotovated and dug over for planting up about the middle of May. Our local plantsman has drawn up a plan for mainly evergreen shrubs including camellias, azaleas, hydrangeas, cotoneaster, pieris, mahonias and hebes. We're also planting a liquidamber, and on the south facing terrace we have a quince, peach and nectarine to plant. We're really excited about this project. May and June are excellent for seeing the local spring gardens at their very best. 29/4/06 Tel: 01341 422160 to book, or better still email us with your preferred dates and property.
