Welcome
to Abergwynant and the surrounding area
Outstanding in interest for
walkers, cyclists, bird-watchers, photographers, artists, climbers and all country
lovers, the peaceful surrounding landscape runs deep into the National Park
towards the peaks of Snowdonia, and the superb beaches of Cardigan Bay.
Take to the open air, leave your car behind, you can walk
or cycle the Mawddach Trail, climb Cader Idris, or amble in Abergwynant Woods
with superb views down the estuary. Snowdonia offers world class mountain biking at the 9,000
acre Coed y Brenin (King's Forest), championship golf at Aberdyfi, Harlech or
Portmadog, sailing and white water rafting at Bala, birdwatching at RSPB,
Penmaenpool and of course, the Great Little Trains of Wales.

The
last rays of sun over the Mawddach at low tide. Taken from the
lay-by just before the Clock House as you enter Barmouth. Is the
Mawddach estuary the most beautiful in Wales? We think so. |
| Fine views of the
wide sandy beaches stretching from Fairbourne across the mouth of the
Mawddach past Barmouth towards Shell Island. Lleyn Peninsula
forms the backdrop. The Charolais bull was a fine specimen - I
think there must have been a fence between us when Sandra & I took
this picture! |

Sunrise on the Mawddach
Trail - ideal for walkers & cyclists, with picnic tables dotted
along every so often, the Trail is about 9 miles long. Abergwynant
is just off the trail, about half way along - a gentle stroll through
mixed woodland alongside the babbling Gwynant river |

The harbour at
Barmouth looking back to Cader Idris. There is a footbridge across the
estuary to connect with the Mawddach Trail. This is a popular
scene for local watercolour artists. |
| The Blue Flag beach at
Barmouth with the two Rosies - the donkey & our granddaughter!
Swings, trampoline, candy floss - it's all here at Barmouth.
Fairbourne beach is just as nice but
much quieter.

Taken from the north end of
Barmouth prom. Cartrefle is just out of shot. The light was
stunning. |
