A wildlife information (RSPB) centre has been established at Penmaenpool in an old signal box, and the railway line, which closed in 1965, is now the 8 mile long Mawddach Trail, from Dolgellau to Barmouth. A pleasant ten minute stroll or cycle through Abergwynant Woods joins up with the Gwynant river, and leads onto the Trail, which has picnic benches every mile or so - look out for the family of swans, otters, kingfishers, or the mullet which come upriver with the incoming tide.
All cottages have full electric heating (oil central heating in Butlers). All living rooms have colour television, video and CD player. Kitchens have fridge/freezers, (except Coachmans) full size four ring electric cooker with oven and grill, microwave, toaster, iron, ironing board etc down to cafetiere, bottle opener and garlic press. Natural spring water supply from borehole. Ample parking on site. Large shared walled garden with orchard and garden furniture. Duvets with bed linen (beds made up on arrival) and fluffy bath sheets/hand towels supplied. Electricity included. Shared laundry with washer and dryer. Non smoking.
Formerly servants quarters, totally refurbished in 1998. Now self contained wing of Hall. Entrance hall, cosy sitting/dining room with small inglenook and Little Wenlock ‘log’ burning stove — actually powered by gas, on a Welsh slate hearth. Galley kitchen with fully fitted units, dishwasher and fridge freezer. Two bedrooms upstairs; one spacious double with king size bed, colour tv and easy chairs, two steps down into pretty four piece en-suite bathroom including shower stall and power shower. Twin bedded room with en-suite power shower, basin and wc. Pretty enclosed patio with barbecue, trellising, flower pots, tubs & troughs. Parking for two cars. Outbuilding for cycle storage. Full oil CH with independent controls. Sorry, no pets.
Sitting room with original inglenook fireplace, beams, old bread oven and Little Wenlock coal burner on a Welsh slate hearth (initial supply of coal free). Terracotta tile floors with rugs over. Dining/kitchen with fully fitted units — electric oven, hob, extractor, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. Upstairs one double with attractive ceiling open to eaves and beams, one single bedroom. Bathroom also open to eaves with beams, velux window, electric shower over bath. Views to oak woodland. One well behaved pet allowed by arrangement - £21 per week.
